Sports Massage

The aim of sports massage is to ensure that, whatever the individual sport or activity, the body is raised to and maintained at the peak of its performance. This form of massage therapy manipulates and stretches muscles and connective tissues, using specialised techniques that enhance movement and can increase range of motion.  It is often used before, during and after sports events to:

  • Relieve muscular tension and tightness
  • Promote healing after an injury
  • Reduce swelling
  • Alleviate fatigue
  • Promote flexibility and mobility
  • Aid in the prevention of injuries
  • Encourage confidence, a great way to prepare for competitions

Regular massage will prevent musculoskeletal imbalances which can contribute to poor performance, changes in strength/power and reflex actions, muscle wasting or discomfort and pain

However, you don’t have to be participating in regular sport to reap the benefits of a sports massage. It can help people from all walks of life who suffer from muscle tension, stress and fatigue.  This type of massage can be used for everyone with different levels of stresses and strains on the body; caused by digging in the gardening, lifting heavy bags, sitting at a computer all day, carrying babies, or individuals whose muscles are tight or have a restricted range of joint movement caused by inactivity or injury.

Deep Tissue Massage

We use Deep Tissue Massage techniques when clients are experiencing chronic muscle tension or have an injury, sports related or not. Deep Tissue Massage works to break down adhesions to relieve pain, to help improve mobility and movement. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain and inflammation and can be found in muscles, tendons and ligaments.

This type of massage is ideal if you are experiencing:

  • Lower back pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Postural problems
  • Repetitive strain injury (such as Carpel Tunnel Syndrome)
  • Sciatica
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Muscle tension
